BRETAGNE, FRANCE, JANUARY 2022
Scallop fishing is open to professionals and amateurs from October to March. This is an opportunity for the local snorkelers to practice their skills. It is sometimes necessary to descend to more than 10 meters deep in water that can drop below 10 degrees to bring back the shells by hand. A prowess that freedivers manage to achieve through regular training that allows them to last more than 3 minutes on a single breath.
Freedivers defend an eco-responsible way of fishing because this technique does not destroy the sea bed, unlike trawlers that ‘scrape’ the bottom of the sea to bring up the precious shellfish.
