PINK GRANIT COAST

BRETAGNE, FRANCE, JANUARY 2022

In the north of Brittany, the pink granite coast runs along the Atlantic coastline for 10 kilometers between the towns of Trébeurden in the west and Perros-Guirec in the east.

The geological formation giving the stones their particular shapes and colors is found in only three places in the world: in Corsica, in China and in Brittany. Granit is made of a mixture of mica, feldspar and quartz, giving the stones their unique colors, ranging from red to brown to pink.

From the port of Ploumanac’h, the customs path follows the coast to the beach of Trestraou. It passes by the Mean Ruz lighthouse, built in 1946 on the ruins of the first lighthouse built in 1860 and destroyed by German troops in 1944.
